Hey everybody, it's me, John. First of all, I'm ok, but I was in the hospital this week.
Here's the short version of the story. I was misdiagnosed with the flu (I actually have adenovirus) and was given Tamiflu, which it turns out I'm highly allergic to.
The long version of the story will have to wait until our next podcast, but it involves a nightmare experience in a hospital that was beyond capacity because of a flu outbreak, where mistakes were made and I was thought to have everything from mono to meningitis (spinal taps aren't fun). I finally freaked out on Friday night (my 5-year-wedding anniversary) and stormed out of the hospital. Turns out you can speed up the whole sign-out process if you threaten to tear your own IV out.
The only good thing about being in the hospital is that my best friend in the whole world works there, and he was with me at every opportunity. He and his family even watched my son so my wife could be with me on our anniversary. I know you all love the bromance I share with the one-and-only Chris Sorrentino. Well, I have to tell you, it just keeps growing stronger. I love that man.
So, I'm home, and I'm working closely with my doctor to get well again. Chris and I were waiting until the last minute to see if we could record this week's episode, but the virus is affecting my throat now (or I picked up an infection while in the hospital) and I'm unable to speak for more than a few minutes before choking and losing my voice. So, for the first time since we started doing this weekly, there won't be a new episode this week. I'm very sorry. I can't wait until I can record new podcasts, return to work, kiss my wife, and hold my son. He's turning a year old this month! Time flies when you have kids.
We'll double up on episodes when I'm better and give you all two in one week as soon as we can. We have a lot to talk about. Chris actually went through some tough times, too. Both of his dogs died less than two weeks apart.
Let's hope we only go up from here.
